    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I would check customers in and out of vehicles. I would man the phones to make bookings and deal with any customer queries. I would drive cars for many hours a day to deliver them to customers and pick them up. When checking customers in I would be tasked with selling protection packages to them.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my customer service skills. I am now more confident in regards to sales as well as dealing with customer problems. My time management skills have been improved as a result of my exposure to work life and the fact I have had to balance tasks between my time

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • On paper yes I was as I was given corporate accounts that I had to manage, but in reality they were dead accounts that haven’t rented in the last year. As well as this, I didn’t have the time to build relations with the accounts due to the fact that I was driving and dealing with customers for so much of the day.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • There was a very heavy sales culture that can be seen as somewhat toxic sometimes. It was however very welcoming and people were friendly when I started and throughout.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • To put it simply, I didn’t. I really enjoyed spending time with the people I met and became friends with but the job simply was not what it was sold to me as. I spent a lot of time just driving and the heavy sales focus took me by surprise and I didn’t particularly enjoy that.
