Overview
Being part of a team with your 'Buddy', assisting team members on tasks related to Audit. These would involve executing Audit procedures after getting coaching from team members. There would also be opportunities to participate in team meetings and sit in meetings with clients. Furthermore there is also an opportunity to visit client site.
Skills
I have expanded my knowledge of Audit and developed new skills regarding auditing, such as how to use firm specific software. I have also developed my existing excel skills, learning new shortcuts and features, and becoming a lot quicker. Furthermore, I have improved my communication skills with my peers, seniors and clients and have also become more confident in the process.
Responsibilities
My level of responsibility grew throughout my internship, from doing simpler tasks at the start, to having a role in the signing of an audit at the end of my internship. Whilst large amounts of responsibility is given to you, support is offered throughout and there is always opportunities to ask for help or support. Furthermore, I was encouraged to seek out opportunities with more responsibility if I was not satisfied with the work I was doing.
Support & Guidance
I received large amounts of support thought, in particular from my career coach and buddy, but also from the wider team who were always happy to answer questions and help. PwC has a large focus on coaching, and I would be guided through any tasks I was given to carry out before completing them for myself. There was always additional help available if I needed it and always someone to answer my questions.
Culture
The culture at PwC is something that really surprised me, and has left a very positive impression. There is a very supportive and positive atmosphere in the office and there is a strong culture of support and coaching. Everyone at the firm I spoke to was willing to help me and guide me through any tasks I was completing, without judgement. I was made to feel incredibly welcome throughout my internship and part of the team and there is strong focus on diversity, as seen by how we were introduced to some of their employee networks.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship, it has been a truly incredible experience- my one complaint is that 4 weeks isn't long enough! I have developed industry specific technical skills but also many soft skills. The internship experience will set me up for the future, whether this is in Audit or elsewhere. The support I got was great and some colleagues I have met will leave lasting impressions on my development as a professional. I was excited to go to work each day, despite the long commute, and I am sad to be leaving- that shows how much I have enjoyed it!
