    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I worked on an implementation of an accounting standard for an insurance firm which involved understanding the accounting standard and how to tailor this with the client's requirements. I worked on a programme assurance engagement which involved reviewing a large number of documents and evaluating the benefits and change controls within an organisation. I worked on a frameworks engagement which involved taking on information from SMEs to prepare recommendations and improvements for client documents.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I feel that I have become more confident in a professional environment as a result of my internship and I now understand how to tailor my communication styles for the appropriate scenario. I have learnt how to use excel proficiently and use it to add value for my client. I finally think I have developed my written communication skills and have a better understanding of how to express my opinions clearly in writing.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given lots of responsibility during my internship. I had the opportunity to work on client engagements and give my opinions during client meetings. I also had the opportunity to take part in team-wide meetings and add my own contributions where appropriate.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received lots of support and guidance during my internship. I had a buddy assigned to me who helped me settle into the firm and was always on hand to answer any questions I had. I also had a career coach who I could speak to about my ambitions for my career and who gave me great advice about my future career.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was amazing. It is a very friendly and collaborative culture and I felt very comfortable in the working environment. It is also a company where people enjoy coming to work every day and enjoy spending time with their team members both on engagements but also outside of work as well.

  • You should definitely apply and if you get an offer, make the most of your time in the firm and get involved as much as possible as that is the best way to get the most of your internship and get to know the firm as best as possible.
