The Role
I thought the placement was an excellent insight into life as a commercial solicitor. At points it was logistically tricky due to the merger and offices coming together.
My trainee buddy was my primary supervisor who gave me plenty of tasks. I also got work from other members of the team including partners and senior associates.
I was given good support despite my team being very busy. I could always ask for help if I didn't understand a certain task.
Every day I was busy thoughout the day with practice presentations and office work by my trainee supervisor primarily.
I felt I was given the correct amount of responsibility for someone at my stage who hasn't studied law as of yet.
I felt that I utilised skills learnt in my degree course eg. problem solving. It has also enabled me to expand on my analytical, time management and interpersonal skills.
The Company
Everyone was hard working but people still made the effort to stop and chat to me and ask me about my experiences at the firm so far and what I had been doing previously eg. university
I thought the placement was well organised. There were a few location errors but this was expected due to office movement in light of the merger.
We had training in IT and Legal Research. The rest of the legal training was just learnt on the job.
Subsidised Canteen
In the past a high proportion of Vacation Scheme Students have been offered a training contract.
The Culture
Everyone was really friendly and I enjoyed socialising with the other Vac-Schemers.
London is expensive.
London is an exciting place to work and socialise.
We had opportunities to get involved in the Sports games after work if we wished.
