Overview
Admin e.g spreadsheets Tax returns/ mapping Case study planning and presentation
Skills
Not really, I can use excel a bit better but didn’t receive any training for that.
Responsibilities
No. I was mainly given admin related tasks to fill my time but it wasn’t very sector specific so I didn’t built many skills or commercial awareness.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support from my Buddy and Counsellor but didn’t have much interaction with anyone else. Also revived very clear, helpful lunch and learn sessions on next steps and feedback processes.
Culture
My buddy and counsellor and the L1s and L2s were very friendly. Didn’t really have many interactions with anyone besides them.
Your Impressions
2/5 - one star for my buddy and one for my counsellor. My office didn’t make much effort to set tax relevant tasks and there was only one social during my month there. I understand that it’s the Tax slow season and they had new joiners who were also asking for works, but I think it could’ve been organised better so that we were all given sufficient work. I’ve spoken to people from different offices and they’ve had a vastly different experience where they did do meaningful work despite all these things.
Yes
Research the offices throughly before you apply as it will greatly affect your experience - I suggest reaching out to new joiners to do this. From what I’ve heard from other interns the London office has more work opportunities and a friendlier environment.
