    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My industrial placement role is a quantitative systems toxicology (QST) modeller, which is based in the Non-Clinical Safety department of Research and Development. In this role I apply mechanistic modelling to support safety-related decisions through integration of non-clinical data in mathematical models.

  • Yes. I was tasked with managing my own project, recording & reporting its own process. ensure the repository was kept up to date and propriety data was correctly looked after.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Fantastic support & guidance. I was quickly introduced to the concepts of mathematical modelling & coding using R. I was provided a welcoming environment to practice the coding skills. multiple meetings weekly were useful for tracking my progress and made support easy to access.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture and general atmosphere was also fantastic. plenty of both work based & extra-curricular activities readily available for both career progression and just general relaxation. Everyone was extremely welcoming .

  • Enjoyed everything about it. so many opportunities available & really gave insights into a career path I wasn't all that familiar with. I've made friends & connections for my future career and continue to recieve support

  • take up every opportunity you can. Ensure you show your determination and passion, you don't have to be the most technical scientist to score a placement, you've just got to show the basic skills and the capabilities to learn more.
