Overview
My role is to conduct research into Gen Z and how EG brands can target younger consumers in the UK through the use of social media channels. I also work with colleagues who lead different regions in Europe, so its super interesting to see the different type of campaigns that go out to different countries. Occasionally, I help create Instagram reels and blog posts for the Expedia Group social channels.
Skills
Definitely! Being given an individual intern project has allowed me to build on and develop my project management skills since it has forced my to manage timelines, set deadlines, co-ordinate presentations to keep my team updated and most importantly, take accountability to ensure that my work is being produced to the highest standard. Being an intern has also heightened by career aspirations through attending events, webinars, and shadowing multiple employees in different divisions within the marketing sector, I’ve built professional connections and engaged with like-minded individuals who all share similar passions and interest to me.
Responsibilities
Definitely! As previously mentioned, I've been given an independent project which is entirely down to me. This means that I'm responsible for reaching out to employees on different teams that may be able to help me as well as ensure the project ticks all the requirements and objectives. Also in terms of creating content, I've been able to have lots of creative freedom on how to execute reels and blog posts. As interns, we seem to be really trusted by employees which is incredibly refreshing to see.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support! The emerging talent team have been incredible in terms of welcoming us into the program and giving us lots of support throughout. The drop in sessions and events have really made me feel supported and I feel as though I can always ask questions if I need to!
Culture
The company culture is incredibly positive. There have been so many employees who I've spoken to who have worked at the company at least 4/5+ years which is already a huge indicator that EG is a great place to work. Also, everyone is so welcoming to interns and anyone you reach out to, they always want to help which as an intern makes you feel so welcomed and also confident. You can also tell that people love working here.
Your Impressions
Really enjoying my time so far. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience being trusted to take on individual projects. It's also bene a great opportunity to see if working in the travel industry and the corporate world in general is for me.
Yes
If you're applying for a more creative role like Marketing, try and create a mini portfolio of your work that will make your application stand out. I did this and through every stage of the application process I was praised on my portfolio and work. Also don't be afraid to admit you don't know something or that you need to develop on certain skills or knowledge gaps. At the end of the day you're applying for an internship therefore you're not expected to know everything. But, if you can admit this, then it shows you're willing to develop your skills and consistently keep learning.
