    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work on assay development and supporting pipeline activities. This would include planning experiments, including ordering reagents, creating a protocol and/or method, running an experiment, data analysis and a write-up. I will also be in constant communication with either the requestors for an assay or my supervisors if working on my student project.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills, mostly methodical and practical skills such as how to set up and use new instruments and troubleshooting. I have developed my interpersonal skills such as leadership and teamwork and also become more confident, especially in presentations and meetings.

  • I was given a lot more independence than I expected at a much faster rate, which resulted in me planning and carrying out my own ideas and experiments from start to finish with little input from my supervisors; however, they would always be on hand to help if I had any questions or queries.
