Overview
In my role, I worked as part of the Digital Acquisition team in the London office, developing a landing page and email campaign for American Express UK. My average day consists of answering emails, arranging networking chats, collaborating with creative agencies on my projects and conducting product and Cardmember research (data analysis).
Skills
I have learnt how to: write a marketing brief, conduct data analysis, carry out competitor research, give feedback to creative agencies and develop my financial awareness. I am now have a greater understanding of excel, compliance, the payments industry and internal marketing processes. In terms of soft skills, I have strengthgened my presentation and communication skills through collaboration with a variety of stakeholders both internally and externally.
Responsibilities
I was given huge amounts of independence and responsibility throughout my internship. Working within ICS, I was made to feel like a peer rather than just an intern. In regards to my internship project, I was able to lead it autonomously whilst also having a strong network of support behind me. The experinece allowed me a lot of independence and leadership development.
Support & Guidance
I was given huge amounts of support throughout my internship. Every member of my team made time to meet up every week, grab a coffee and check in with how I was getting along. I also met every week with a designated mentor and budd every week, who also offered advice and support throughout.
Culture
American Express is an amazing company for its culture. Everyone is happy to make time to support your growth and is really invested in getting to know you as a person rather than just within a work setting. The work/life balance is really good and there are lots of company socials.
Your Impressions
I hugely enjoyed my internship. My team were so friendly, supportive and fun and really made the entire experience. I learnt so much and developed many soft and technical skills. I would hugely recommend an internship at American Express.
