Overview
During my placement year with IBM, I worked as a Sales Support Intern, focusing on driving revenue growth in the Public Sector. In this role, I had direct exposure to sales engagements and worked closely with brand sellers and managing directors to support the growth of IBM's Public Sector business. My main responsibility was to support the sales team by researching and identifying new business opportunities, promoting IBM products and services to potential clients, and maintaining relationships with existing clients.
Skills
As I explored the direction IBM and the world are heading, I became fascinated by the growing importance of AI. This sparked my curiosity to delve deeper into the world of AI, leading me to complete various learning badges. I earned all three WatsonX Sales Foundation badges, gaining insight into how we sell WatsonX to clients and business partners. This knowledge enabled me to create an elevator pitch on watsonx.governance, which I presented to my team, highlighting the benefits of effective governance in AI adoption. Furthermore, I completed the IBM Quantum Conversations badge. Through this badge, I gained a deeper understanding of the principles and applications of quantum computing. In addition, I have also developed a strong foundation in cloud computing through completing the AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials course, which took me approximately 2 months to finish. This course provided me with a solid understanding of fundamental AWS Cloud concepts.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given a lot of responsibility which included work which involved identifying new territories and promoting IBM Technology to new NHS trusts, generating new business for our brand sellers to pursue.
Support & Guidance
Yes, all interns had a task manager and foundation manager and both provided me incredible amounts of support and guidance.
Culture
When joining a larger organisation, I was sceptical, however, I was proven wrong as general atmosphere is very welcoming. Everyone in the organisation, regardless of job role, is very approachable.
Your Impressions
I massively enjoyed my placement - I have grown both personally and professionally and have met some incredible people throughout, from managers in my team to other interns. I have loved my placement.
