The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year with Hays, I had real responsibilities within the working environment and had working targets to achieve. The role was very varied from day to day which allowed me to develop my skills in many different areas such as working to tight deadlines, targets, time management, organisation, communication, sales and finance. It was a brilliant and invaluable experience!
I felt I was a very valued colleague within my placement who was supported and encouraged throughout to achieve the best of my potential and develop my skills within a corporate working environment. Within the office I was placed there is a real sense of community within everyone working together and supporting eachother to succeed and achieve for the business.
Throughout my placement I have been fully supported by management on many levels from my line manager to my regional director. All of whom have been interested in my growth and development, providing me with excellent training and always having the patience to answer my questions and help.
The nature of my role involved me being very busy on a day to day basis, I really enjoyed this as it gave me an insight into a fast paced working environment and how to deal with the pressure of working efficiently and effectively to achieve results.
I was given full responsibility in my placement, just like any other new member of staff starting a career with Hays. This was brilliant as I got a realistic experience and insight into a corporate working environment and was able to develop throughout, with support from my colleagues.
The skills and training will definitely assist me in my degree and beyond, because the role involved so many aspects relevant to my degree it allowed me to apply my academic study into a real life working environment, This has given me an invaluable insight which has trained me both academically and work related to apply my skills and knowledge within my chosen career.
The Company
The office I worked within was the biggest in it's region therefore there was a great atmosphere of working as a team, with good spirit and determination. Everyone supports eachother and therefore it is a very friendly, like a big family working environment. We definitely did have fun challenging eachother and completed work related activities and competitions of win various prizes regularly.
It was a very well organised placement with a structure of my training, targets and responsibilities, however throughout my placement year, many changes occurred from management changes to my job roles changing. This however was a positive challenge and allowed me to develop skills in adapting to change at work which I feel is a very important skill to have within the working world.
I was given full training when I began and was supported with the opportunity of further training (if relevant) throughout my placement. I was also given the opportunity to support within other areas of the business for example corporate networking events and present and promoting the placement at Universities. The best part was that I was never told "I couldn't" be involved in anything to do with the company as I wanted an overall insight into the business, which was great!

Very appealing, now I have completed my placement year I have the opportunity to come back as a graduate and build a career. Within approximately 2 years of employment with them I have the prospect to transfer to a different office - internationally! You have to work hard but the rewards are fantastic!
The Culture
There was a very good social scene between the whole office (there were approximately 6 placement students in the office with myself). Every 4 weeks we had a social gathering, I have been to team meals and an amazing Christmas party! Its brilliant to be able to have that balance with your colleagues - both within work and on a social basis.
I found with the wage I was on I was able to live comfortably and socialise. As long as you budget and manage your money then there is not a problem, I really enjoyed myself, its not the cheapest area but it is affordable.
Brilliant, the city is so vibrant there is so much going on that it never stops, there are great clubs, theatres, comedy shows, restaurants etc - you always struggle to choose what to do!
Yes, from socialising on nights out to raising money for the company's chosen charity. Everyone ensures that we get a work/life balance and enjoy ourselves!
