    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • A wide variety of tasks including work on excel documents, investigation into issues, setting up meetings, gaining insights into roles, networking, working with interns on a project set by early talent, writing up documentation etc. I work within the Cyber department in Cryptography so focused around that

  • Access to a host of online resources and learning. Supported to learn general soft skills to become a better worker. Learnt some Excel automation and new functions, and been given advice on pathways to explore.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. Although some tasks you may have less responsibility, I have had plenty to do where I am hands on working on important work that I know will have impact. Many tasks involve being responsible for key work and although it may be checked by somebody, I was the one accountable for it.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The early talent team is always available if you have any issues within the team. My managers within the team give plenty of support, always happy to answer my questions and give me guidance. They have been vital in creating conversations with people to give me advice that I can use in my career path and giving me confidence in the work I have been doing.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • HSBC prides itself on a people based culture and this is reflected in all my interactions. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and positive. The respect shown to all workers, including us as interns has exceeded my expectations.

  • Completely. A job is sometimes considered as a necessary evil to earn money, however I come away each day smiling so it has been great.

  • Do it! Its refreshing to see that HSBC focusses more on getting the people in with the right work ethic and growth mindset than the technical ability so they build a culture that strives to improve and grow. No matter your background, as long as you are willing to learn and get stuck in then you will thrive here.
