Overview
We had various sessions and talks (about practice areas, the firm, strategy etc), socials (speedboating, mini golf, cooking, lunches and dinners) and we sat within a team. Our team would give us work (could be answering queries, proofreading, doing markups) and we also had assessed tasks on the scheme as well. We were free to book coffee chats with different people. You are expected to balance all of these activities and commitments with one another.
Skills
Yes, time management for sure. As mentioned above, you’re expected to balance the work from your team, various sessions, coffee chats, socials and assessed tasks. Attention-to-detail, as your work can have material impacts on the team and potentially clients as well. You get the chance to do real work which is exciting! Communication - whether it be written or verbal, you get many chances to develop this through your work or communications with your Principal, people on coffee chats etc.
Business Insight
We had various talks about the business and got to understand the different areas and roles through those, and i also was able to learn through various coffee chats. It was really insightful and especially the Practice Area talks allowed me to understand a lot more about the business.
Culture
The culture was amazing - everyone was so friendly, supportive, kind and willing to help!! People are very generous with their time and there is a genuine open door culture at Linklaters where real friendships can truly be formed. Everyone just wants the best for you and is always willing to support you.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight - i was able to learn a lot just by sitting with my Principal in my team. I was also able to arrange coffee chats with various lawyers in different departments and that along with the different sessions gave me good insight into the firm. I learnt a lot and the presenters in the sessions often tried to make them engaging which was nice.
Yes
Think of the Agile Mindset Framework always, they consist of the key qualities that Linklaters looks for. Just be yourself in the interviews and try to enjoy yourself, they’ll be able to sense it if you actually enjoy yourself and have a genuine passion for links and commercial law.
