The Role
Really enjoyed the flexibility of the role - ideal way to balance study with relevant work experience building towards a career
Felt a very valued team member even though I was working for GRB remotely (at university) - GRB have a great recognition programme for their student brand managers - I was very pleased to receive a recommendation on my LinkedIn profile and be awarded SBM of the month at one stage, but GRB offer a number of different ways for rewarding hard work
Although little opportunity for face-to-face contact as the role entails remote work at university, received regular emails from the team and frequent support packs with loads of tips on the best ways to engage with other students
The job is completely flexible - you can be as busy as you want to be!! Obviously the more work you put in, the better your results, but the fact that it is so flexible means that you can balance your work as a student brand manager around the demands of your course. At some points in the year, such as September/ October when the main grad schemes were hiring, I spent a couple of hours a day on work for GRB, yet in May/ June when I was doing my exams, I prioritised my degree work and did less for GRB. It's all up to you, but I definitely found that when I put more hours in, the sign ups reflected it!
As the sole representative for my university, I alone was responsible for spreading the word about GRB to other students. This required a lot of self-motivation and drive. GRB may attend a couple of careers fairs at your university, but ultimately, you are their biggest promotional tool
Employers have already been really impressed with the skills I've acquired/ qualities I've demonstrated as a SBM for GRB. I've shown that I'm results-driven, self-motivated, committed, flexible and creative. The fact that GRB have created a great recognition programme (eg. with the LinkedIn recommendations and SBM of the month awards), as well as a dashboard keeping a record of all your sign ups to date, gives tangible evidence to support these qualities.
The Company
N/A - I worked for GRB from my university
N/A - Not a relevant question in terms of an organised placement in the GRB office, but the aims of the remote role at my university were clearly defined from the outset
As previously mentioned, loads of regular contact and support
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Working from home
Great opportunities for those interested in recruitment - if you secure over a certain number of sign ups, you are guaranteed an interview
The Culture
N/A - only one rep at each uni
N/A - worked from uni
N/A - worked from uni
