    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Went through 2 weeks of thorough training for Tableau development before meeting with an internal stakeholder to gather business requirements, create user stories and to begin working on the Tableau development. Day to day revolves around engaging with stakeholders to gather feedback and improvements. Also have presented my work back to the stakeholders and their managers and team and the Tableau dashboards are now integrated within their day to day work making things more efficient. Also work with the gender network to fasciliate allyship at work sessions for colleagues around the bank to gain an appreciation and understanding of their power and privlege as well as learn what they can do to upskill and empower colleagues.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have been upskilled in the use of Tableau software - by completing a 24 hour course on the programme as well as then being supported by a Tableau expert whilst completing work for the stakeholders. Have also attended various events in the data and analytics space such as the evolution of AI, Generative AI Fundamentals, Financial Crime and many more. Also attended wellbeing workshops: one looking at all areas of wellbeing and the other making a wellbeing plan.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the responsibility to communicate with stakeholders and make decisions and improvements for their asks and plans. I was also given the chance to present the final dashboard to the stakeholder and their management team. Other responsibilities included being given the chance to run an allyship at work programme which recieved glowing initial feedback. Additional responsibilities included being empowered to manage my own time and diary as well as chairing multiple meetings throughout my time.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a large amount of support during my time at the NatWest Group. This began with a call from my graduate buddy in April before I joined in late June and I also met my manager online prior to joining. This foundation support continued throughout my internship with me meeting my manager everyday for 15 minutes to discuss anything and everything. I also had weekly catch ups with my buddy. My manager also built me an incredible network - setting up many 1-to-1s and connections. For the tableau development I received brilliant support from a tableau expert who was so approachable and kind and to add to this, the stakeholder was also very supportive - helping to build my confidence in meetings and presentations as well as providing some help with the final interview prep.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Although the meetings were primarily online since most people only came into the office on Wednesdays in my team - when people were in the office they would be more than happy to take time out and spend time on a one to one basis to discuss and share about their work as well as help to support my own. Everyone that I came across were super nice and approachable - this is definitely an inclusive and positive place to work.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed my internship to a large extent. The Early Careers team at the NatWest Group really went above and beyond to put together such a comprehensive and thorough schedule for the interns - with the perfect mix of placement time (time spent doing work set by your team/manager), business project (project completed as a team with four of the other interns), self led learning and learning sessions as well as socials and a volunteering day.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group
  • Take an indepth looking into their CPCs (critical people capabilities) which link to their strategy and purpose. These values are really resonated within the bank. Come up with real life examples of when you have demonstrated these as well as your own reflections on them. Definitely apply to NatWest Group if you have any doubts as it has been such a remarkable experience, where I have been exposed to such a range of people and projects!
