The Role
It was a great opportunity to get involved in work at a top UK law firm, and experience it first hand. I was given a variety of very interesting work to do while I was on the placement and it was really refreshing working alongside relaxed, approachable trainees and lawyers.
All the trainees made me feel really welcome. My supervisor was away but he made sure there were sufficient support staff to fill in for him. The partners also took a real interest in my work and my career, and I felt genuinely valued by everyone that I came across.
We were given really helpful training sessions at the beginning of the placement and reminded that there was help at hand if we encountered any problems during the two weeks. It was also possible to always ask the other lawyers in the office if we needed help.
The dept I was sat in wasn't overly busy but I was kept occupied with lots of different tasks given by various lawyers so I was kept busy the whole time with legal work, as well as the case studies I was set.
I was given a lot of responsibility as I was doing work that the trainees also were expected to undertake. Even if it was photocopying and stapling, I understood that the work I was doing was really important for the firm and that if admin work isn't carried out at a basic level, the firm will find it very difficult to develop their business, so at all times, I felt i was playing an integral role.
I've already completed my undergrad degree but the skills I picked up from working on legal matters and work and research I did for the case studies will be really valuable, as I made use of electronic resources I hadn't previously been familiar with.
The Company
The trainees worked hard but there was a lot of good attitude among them, and I got the geniune feeling they were interested in what they do as well as took having fun to be very important as well.
Great, no problems at all, everything was really well organised, and the communcation between HR and trainees and us was really efficient.
They take the students on the vacation scheme very seriously so I undertood they put a lot of effort into organising socials and seminars for us.
Sports and Social Club
Yet to be seen.
The Culture
The other placement students didn't really interact outside the office.
Quite expensive, was in Moorgate so central London is quite pricey.
Lots of corporate and business type bars!
We had socials to attend out of work.
