The Role
It was a good and varied experience that meant I was given varied roles and responsibilities that I felt have really developed my skills.
At no point did I feel like anyone treated me like the intern tea boy. My work was always valued and often I would be asked for advise regarding certain subjects.
I had a monthly discuss with my manager to talk about any issues I had with my role and responsibilities and my team lead was always available to answer my questions.
To start off I found myself idle a fair amount as I was completing tasks more efficiently than expected but as I gained more responisbilities my work load by half way through the year was enough to keep me busy all week, however the responsibilities have now been added to the role and this idle time should not happen with the next intern.
With the roles I took on I developed a lot a responsibility regarding certain processes where I was the only one who knew how the process worked.
It will really help me about real life accounts having seen how they are applied and used. It will also give me more focus next year after seeing that the degree is related to industry specific tasks.
The Company
There is good buzz in the office and everyone is up for a laugh.
It will depend, department to department, and I found although my job was treated as real role it meant that there wasn't the support for an industrial trainee scheme wasn't there as much.
There are training courses available on Lockheed's online system but as Lockheed is an american company it is mainly american. There was an intern development day to London however.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I have been given a letter of intent for graduate work.
The Culture
There is a good social life with other placement students if you choose to take it it will depend on the interns though.
I lived and commuted from Guildford so cannot comment on the local cost.
Portsmouth has a good and varied nightlife from old portsmouth to Gunwharf.
There are voluntering opportunities and opportunities to go to graduate/placment fairs with the company.
