Overview
Performing audit tests to understand client processes and relevant documentation provided to complete and ensure the information in the financial statements are true and correct.
Skills
Working in audit has strengthen both written and verbal communication skills as it is required on a regular basis to communicate with the audit and the client team. I have also become more proficient in IT skills as the use of Microsoft Excel is required, and occasionally PowerPoint and Word.
Responsibilities
As we joined the firm in the same level as a graduate, we were given the very basic responsibilities, such as performing the tests and analysis to build the understanding of the processes. While it is basic, it is also important to complete it as it is integral to the entire audit. So I would say I was given much responsibilities.
Support & Guidance
Everyone in the office has been very helpful and patient. Even if I am not working with the person, they are still willing to help out if I have any questions. RSM also has frequent training sessions to help hone the soft skills for everyday audit.
Culture
As mentioned previously, everyone in the office is very kind. There are frequent social events within the department to take a break from audit. Recently there is also office wide social events set up for the rest of the year to bring the people from different departments together.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed my placement and had so much fun during the year. After accepting the job offer, I had no idea what audit is, and have no expectations of what's to come for the year but after this year, I have learned a lot and have a much greater understanding of audit. At the end of it, I can comfortably say that after graduation, I will be back in audit.
Yes
Be yourself as that is very much valued in the company, but also be professional as it is still work and it is good to leave a good impression for the people in the company. Be open to conversations with people and build the connections as it is much needed during and after the job.
