Overview
As an intern, you mostly assist the team in the production of PowerPoint materials. You draft slides on Financing Considerations (capital structure evolution, financing options and structure, execution considerations, comps) and manipulate LBO models on Excel. You also update different presentation if needed, manage Q&A with investors and participate on the elaboration of committee memo.
Skills
I developed my technical knowledge on leverage finance (types and characteristics of debt products), my capacity of analyzing a company and its market as well as how are the different steps in a live deal. I also improve my rigor. I also developed my personal skills by working with people with different background and culture. For example I developed my adaption skill, my team spirit and my commutation skills.
Responsibilities
I had the chance to work on two live deals as well as different pitches. I had very good exposure to all the members of the team and I had responsibilities especially in producing the materials for investment committee. I was also asked to answer to emails and manage a Q&A with potential investors on a deal.
Support & Guidance
The team was extremely available to answer my questions, even if there were busy. I could ask questions related to leverage finance as well as more practical questions on the work. Senior and juniors people took time to answer me. It really helped me be more comfortable in the team and being more proactive.
Culture
Nomura's culture is really good. I felt great and respected during the internship. I received constructive feedback on my work as well as thank you when I did something for them. The team also organized a team lunch outside to give us the opportunity to spend time together outside work. We also went for drinks together, which gave e the opportunity to talk to everyone. Human Resources are also really available and gave clear instructions, which help me find my feet.
Your Impressions
First, I really liked my team and the work I was doing. I had very good exposure and had the chance to have real responsibilities, and I felt useful. I think Leverage Finance is very technical and this is something that interest me a lot. My team was really nice. I liked having a buddy because she helped me a lot and spent time with me to allow me to progress and produce good work. Finally, Nomura has great office where I felt good and having other interns to share the experience was extremely nice.
