Overview
The role is very varied. Every day involved relationship and stakeholder management, project management, internal communications, dealing with internal approval processes. The role involves developing and maintaining strategic partnerships that address health equity in the UK. It's a UK focused role despite the 'Global Health' in the job title. Alongside this, we also manage colleague volunteering among other internal processes.
Skills
I've become way more confident in the year I've spent at Pfizer. I've improved project management and stakeholder management skills through my day to day work with external organisations. I've also learnt how to navigate strict internal approval processes within the pharmaceutical industry. I've had the opportunity to attend and represent Pfizer at multiple external events including at the Houses of Parliament, and a United Nations summit. I've absolutely loved this year, it's surpassed my expectations massively.
Responsibilities
I was given way more responsibility than I initially anticipated. My manager trusted me with multiple important, external projects. The nature of the work is externally facing, impacting our reputation, so I was surprised at the trust I was given to lead and manage some of these. I felt really grateful to be trusted like this.
Support & Guidance
You could tell from the first day that Pfizer has such a welcoming and nurturing culture. Everybody I interacted with was so helpful, kind and enthusiastic about their work. I was constantly asking questions, and everyone was always encouraging of this and happy to answer. People want to see you do well and so support and guidance is given, but I wouldn't say it was over the top. I think you are encouraged to expand your comfort zone, but in a safe space with guidance from your team.
Culture
The culture at Pfizer is great. Everyone at Pfizer genuinely cares about their job and their impact on patients. I can see Pfizer's values expressed in everyone I come across here. It's almost as if Pfizer attracts a certain type of person, everyone is so similar in values, and it's great to be surrounded by likeminded, passionate people. With one of the values being Joy, Pfizer made sure to host events on site that allowed colleagues to enjoy their time at work - notably the free ice cream truck every Wednesday in summer. I think the culture is what makes Pfizer so special - it's supportive, everyone wants to help everyone, and it's encouraging of curiosity and growth.
Your Impressions
I loved my placement here at Pfizer. It went way beyond my expectations. I thought I'd struggle with the 9-5, staring at the clock wanting to leave - but I really haven't had this at all. The work is engaging, the people genuinely care, and the surroundings are beautiful. I will miss it.
Yes
I'd say be yourself and be curious. Curiosity is also rewarded here at Pfizer with so many people happy to help. I think hiring managers look for the right sort of person to fit in here at Pfizer, so ensure you personally align with Pfizer's values. Overall, I'd say give the applications your best shot as it really is a great place to work.
