    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role involves managing and leading on omnichannel and medical education projects. To do this, I work widely with the cross-functional team, ensuring there is clear communication between everyone. I also aid and lead on material development as well as implementation of materials. Disease awareness and antimicrobial stewardship campaigns are some bigger projects that I work on. I use digital marketing tools and platforms daily in order to monitor the efficiency of the campaigns that we launch to survey the customer needs.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have acquired a range of new skills which are tailored to the unique demands of the pharmaceutical marketing industry. These include a knew found knowledge of regulatory compliance, where I learnt how to ensure marketing practices are aligned with the industry standards and ABPI code. I have developed my market analysing skills where I can now leverage data and see customer trends and needs to plan out omnichannel activities. I have also refined my communication skills while learning to convey more complex medical information in a more efficient manner to customer groups. Working cross-functionally with different areas of the business has adapted me to be more confident and adaptable as well.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • The first couple of months of my placement year was filled with training on compliance and how to use specific systems. I then progressed to getting smaller responsibilities once I had mastered using the digital platforms. This included aiding colleagues which trained me to do their tasks independently later on. Gradually, I was given my own projects which I lead on, taking my own time to plan, execute, and monitor the success of it. Overall, the level of responsibility given may vary in terms of the size of your team and their ways of working.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My manager and my colleagues were very friendly and approachable which made it easy for me to reach out to them if I had any concerns or questions. I also had regular check-ins with my team in order to talk through the projects I was leading on and to ask whether I needed any extra support or guidance. The thorough onboarding process familiarized me with the tools and platforms which I needed to use which made some things self-explanatory. I also had access to training materials and pharmaceutical marketing courses which made it easier to integrate myself to this new industry.

  • Pfizer offers a wide range of colleague resource groups which focuses on supporting our diverse cohort. They also organise many activities for everyone to participate in to ensure inclusivity. We also have 5 volunteering days that we can use. This allowed me to take part in becoming a STEM ambassador and WISE (women in STEM) member as well. I have taken part in volunteering events with my team as well which included ragwort clearing and raising awareness about AMR at science museums. Additionally, we have fun events such as going out for team dinners and building our connections through business conferences.
