Overview
Tasks revolve around the collection, cleaning and presentation of data relating to real estate operations. Example projects include analyzing past data to optimize building utilization, or developing an app for the collection of information. Other tasks involve the general cleaning and homogenizing of data from different sources, and the creation of dashboards to display information in an easy-to-understand manner.
Skills
I've learnt a lot about the general workflow process in a large corporation - particularly that communication and conveying ideas is more essential than completing the core tasks. I've also learnt industry standard data tools, such as Microsoft Power BI, and furthered skills with PowerPoint and Excel.
Responsibilities
I was given a large degree of freedom and jurisdiction over my projects, which were relevant and tied in well with ongoing work within the organisation. The work was not essential, and there would have been little-to-no repercussions if I had done a poor job, but what I did was respected.
Support & Guidance
I feel that support was always available should I have needed it, but I was often comfortable to complete my tasks without the need of assistance from others. Often it was initially unclear what the requirements of my tasks were and I was left to experiment.
Culture
The atmosphere and culture was good - everyone was very friendly, and got along well with each other. I was given good opportunities to meet and speak with members of upper management, all of whom were friendly and accommodating.
Your Impressions
I would say I enjoyed my placement overall - the people were nice and the work felt both engaging and important. The earlier weeks were somewhat challenging, with office disruption making it hard to meet all my colleagues and/or see them regularly.
Yes
(At least within my department) I would say that the rumours are true, and that it has the best working culture out of the major banks. I felt it was fine to just be myself and not overwork myself to try and impress people.
