Overview
On a typical day, the morning would focus on sessions led by particular groups /departments in the firm. The afternoon was spent in the office of our Principal in each of our groups, where we would complete tasks set by people in our group or trainee development.
Skills
I have learnt how to be resillient in the face of challenges posed during the Vacation Scheme.
Business Insight
It was helpful to hear first-hand from trainees at the firm how they found the experience of the training contract.
Culture
On the whole, it felt very casual. It seemed that groups knew each other quite well. I think it was very hit-or-miss between different groups/individuals as to how welcomed you felt - I myself experienced both positive and negative interactions.
Your Impressions
The work itself was extremely enjoyable, and it was exciting to have the opportunity to get involved. My Principal and Trainee Buddy were very friendly and took time out of their busy schedules to ensure I had a positive Vacation Scheme experience. However, the experience was somewhat sullied by the lack of support felt regarding disabilities. Whilst some support is offered, it seemed that there were negative implications should you seek to rely on that support. This made the remainder of the Scheme rather uncomfortable, which was unfortunate.
Yes
If you have a disability, I would do some research into how the firm compares with others regarding inclusivity from people who actually work/have done a scheme there. I would also advise you to advocate for yourself if you need support and feel uncomfortable relying on it due to those around you. On a more general note, prepare questions that are imporant to your decision of whether Linklaters is right for you or not.
