Overview
My day was very varied which I really liked. It would be a mix of news updates for the teams, creating slides, running some numbers and joining calls. Especially at the beginning, my team ran special sessions for the interns to understand key concepts and ask questions which was really helpful. Further down the line I was also spending a large proportion of my time on my project.
Skills
I have learnt lots of new skills and developed others. I have learnt a lot about the markets and particular products which I had no previous experience with. I had previously enjoyed presenting and communication but i developed this lots due to being in a big team, and being encouraged to present during the internship prior to my final presentation - for example i presented updates in the team meeting.
Responsibilities
Alot more than I was expecting, the team are very trusting and whats even better is that they trust you to do the work but they also always check it with you to make sure its correct and you understand it all. We were given responsibility on decks being sent to clients, pricing sent to clients etc
Support & Guidance
A lot, particular from my buddy and analysts. I had a weekly catch-up scheduled with my buddy to go through everything and chat about my experience. My staffer also put in time to discuss this. For tasks, team members would always be happy to set aside time and go through everything and provide explanations related to the tasks. There were points where they would purposefully test you and potentially give less guidance immediately, but after the activity they would always go through it in detail.
Culture
I think my teams culture does stand out from other teams. The team are very vibrant and conversational, they all get on incredibly well and spend time together outsider work. There is a big emphasis on working hard but being rewarded for that and taking breaks. They are all very open which makes them very welcoming and easy to approach. Great team culture.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship, it was intense and stressful at times but that is the industry and throughout those periods i felt very supported and knew who to go to. My team got me involved in everything, we had loads of socials together and even took the day off work for a team outing. I learnt alot and that's what i came for!
Yes
I would say to put the effort into meeting different teams and understand what they do before joining. The activities and cultures of teams are extremely different and it can massively change your experience - find a team that you are happy to spend a large amount of hours a day with as that is the reality.
