    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed my time with GSK. Worked with excellent people in an interesting role.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was treated with respect by everyone I met within the company.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the support I needed. My manager was always happy to talk about any work plus there were a few others who I felt comfortable approaching.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Overall, once I really got involved with the work I think it was well balanced, perhaps on the busy side. Though it was extremely rare that I had any work I needed to stay late to finish. But perhaps if it was a little less busy then it's possible to take the time to think about work more generally.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was assigned many projects during my placement year. I was expected to keep on top of my workload and work independently to a large extent. Though my manager always knew what I was working on and was ready to offer help.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've definitely been introduced to more concepts that I will visit again at university. Though largely I think I've gained more general skills than that. Things like organisation and time management.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a small office and pretty quiet. Everyone is friendly but people generally are getting on with work.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organised. The department have had placement students for a few years now. Begin to understand the work quite quickly.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Generally there were quite a few training courses I went on. At the start there was one specifically for myself and the other new students in my department over four days. This was an excellent introduction. But you learn most just by working with the people in the department.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • You can apply for a graduate position during your placement so you get an advantage in the hiring process.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. There were about 15 of us at the site. And meeting each other is the first thing you do. So it's easy to become a group.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I don't think it was too expensive. It was a bit more than I paid at uni but I think you expect that. We paid £1200 p month for a really nice 3 bed house.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Just pubs really. Next town is slightly better. London is 45 mins on train.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a social club that organise football, tennis, squash, climbing and lots more. There's a gym.
