Overview
I was shadowing my manager and going into various team meetings. I had coffee catch ups with various different people to get to know different areas of the bank. I also was given specific tasks from my manager to complete which helped towards his own tasks. I had to complete a group project and met regularly with my team. I also met weekly with my buddy for a chat.
Skills
I have learnt great networking skills as well as skills of how to work best in a team. I have also learnt analytical as well as technical skills and lots of banking terms and abbreviations that I didn't know previously.
Responsibilities
I was given various tasks such as reviewing annual reviews and loan agreements as well as comparing covenants in the monitoring sheets to the FAs to see if they matched. I compared the data for a company for 2023 and 2024 and used it to start writing the credit paper for 2024 including graphs showing trends.
Support & Guidance
I received alot of guidance from my manager who I felt I could always go to for advice or if I didn't understand something he was always willing to explain to me. Whenever I felt I wanted more tasks to do I felt he was always happy to teach me and give me more responsibility. I also had weekly chats with my grad buddy which was really great as he had bee in my shoes.
Culture
The company culture was great everyone was always willing to talk to me and get to know me and tell me about their experience. I really felt a part of my team at NatWest and everyone was always willing to help and teach me about different areas.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the internship as I feel I learnt so many vital new skills and general things about banking in general. In addition I felt very included at NatWest and that I was actually given responsibilities to carry out tasks.
Yes
The selection process can be really long but it is worth holding through as the internship is great at the end, Once in the internship take advantage of every opportunity given and speak to as many people as possible!
