Overview
Providing help with origination and execution of deals, and aiding where required during the deal lifecycle. Setting up and attending coffee chats with people across the floor to network and gain an understanding of the different teams and their functions within the bank. Attending a variety of skill-building and development sessions (e.g. presentation workshop and spotlight sessions).
Skills
I developed my soft skills in terms of how being able to work with other people to work towards a mutual goal of getting the deal through for the client. I have developed my presentation skills through a mixture of opportunities provided during the 8 weeks, including presenting economic updates to the entire team, desk project presentation and Q+A session, and the fire drill assessment. I have also developed my technical skills in terms of financial modelling, and learning the terms required to understand the deal process, and what considerations are taken when pricing debt and deciding on the hold amount.
Responsibilities
I was definitely given responsibility, however this is very dependent on if you put yourself out there and continue asking for work and if you can help people with what they are working on. The more I showed people that I was willing to learn and deliver, the more responsibility I was given.
Support & Guidance
Everyone at NWB is very helpful. They would take time out of their busy schedules to help interns and answer their questions. It is a very supportive environment to be in and if you come across as a curious and willing to learn individual, everyone will definitely support you and guide you throughout the internship.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming, especially towards interns.
