Overview
As an intern in Treasury I worked on lots of different things at the same time which gave me an excellent insight into what the whole team does. It varied from analysing data on FX trades, to building spreadsheets such as a credit calculator for the team to use. It also involved meeting lots of different teams and spending time with them.
Skills
My excel skills have developed a lot. I feel a lot more proficient in excel. Also my presentation skills have improved as I had to deliver two presentations throughout my internship, which is something I used to not feel confident with. In general, my team-working and communication skills have also been developed further as I learned how to work with a new team in an industry I had no prior experience in.
Responsibilities
I was given a decent amount of responsibility throughout my internship which I did not expect so early on. For example, I was given task that involved directly editing an important document that Treasury writes on a yearly basis.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support and guidance throughout my internship. Firstly, we had a week of training which was very insightful and ensured that everyone was at the same level of finance knowledge. Also, my team constantly provided me with support and guided me with my work when it was all new to me, as well as my line manager setting up weekly catch ups, to see how I am getting on.
Culture
MUFG has a very welcoming and collaborative culture and working environment, which is something that really stood out to me. Within only a week or so, I felt like I had settled in with my team as they were so welcoming. In general, other employees are also very willing to spend time with you and teach you about what they do.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship. It exceeded my expectations and MUFG is definitely a place I would love to work at once I graduate from university.
Yes
I would say in the application process, especially the interviews and AC, be yourself, they want to see who you are as a person and whether or not you would fit in well with their team. Research MUFG, who they are, recent key initiatives e.t.c.
