Overview
I was a risk intern sat within Financial Crime. Day-to-day involved meeting new people and learning about their jobs, reviewing some requests that come into the team mailbox and working on the projects I had been set. The projects involved creating videos to be uploaded to the intranet about my teams roles and organising an international conference for over 550 people.
Skills
I have developed my networking skills by speaking to many different people within the risk function. I also developed my excel skills by completing the Fundamentals of Excel course on Datacamp, which I accessed through NatWest's learning portal
Responsibilities
Yes, I was tasked with updating intranet pages owned by my team. But the biggest responsibility I was given was organising an international conference for over 550 people that hosted external speakers.
Support & Guidance
I have a daily catch-up with my manager which was invaluable as it meant I could touch base and ask any questions I had before the day ahead. Not only that but everyone in my team was very welcoming and willing to answer any questions I had.
Culture
It is a relaxed and open culture, with a people focus meaning there is a good work-life balance. I emailed multiple people who are high up in the bank asking for some time to talk to them about their role and experiences and everyone was willing to meet with me and give me some of their time.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my internship as it has given me a flavour of the risk function and wider corporate life. And allowed me to realise that this is the environment I would like to work in.
Yes
Research the banks purpose and their CPCs as these will come up in your interview and is a big part of the culture here. Other than that: go for it as it is a great company to work for and they provide enjoyable internships.
