Overview
My role is to support my team in carrying out internal functions of TTS such as reporting sales performance, headcount, creating decks for higher ups in the organization, doing data analytics on excel and networking.
Skills
Yes. I have learnt a lot more about how a bank works behind the curtain and where I may fit in best into the organization. I've learnt important skills for networking, excel and PowerPoint. I've developed my confidence and feel more comfortable in an office environment. Also lots of technical stuff about TTS.
Responsibilities
As an internal role, most of the things I did where later tweaked before being used. However, I did work on high profile decks that have been shown to very senior people. Though I have been working on lots of internal and confidential information so in that sense I have had a lot of responsibility.
Support & Guidance
My team was very supportive and would carve out time to help explain things to me. The buddy system is great for learning about soft things before and during the internship. Also there were a few talks from the head of businesses.
Culture
Very good. Citi and TTS is a very friendly atmosphere with no egos and everyone is happy to explain things and go for chats. There was no toxic things like staying late for no reason, obviously if you had stuff to do you should stay but if I had nothing urgent I was encouraged by my team to go home.
Your Impressions
Very much, great use of the summer. Working a full time job makes you experience so much. Also the work environment is nice so hasn't felt like I've thrown my summer away doing something I hate. Also the amount of interns is similar to the amount of capacity so there isn't a bad culture of fighting for a place.
Yes
Don't just apply for investment banking for the sake of it, actually look at the other options as you may find them better and probably less competitive. Also most of working is about getting along with people so make sure you give positive vibes at all stages and be chatty.
