Overview
In my role I help provide financial information to stakeholders alongside ensuring P&L is fully explained. In the morning, tasks include producing P&L reports for different trading desks and providing solutions when a problem arises. After this, comments are made for when the desk’s P&L is over a certain threshold, making reference to movements in the market. The afternoon might include shadowing members of the team, reporting daily market moves and preparing for presentations.
Skills
Throughout my Internship I have developed a number of new skills. Namely, in understanding how financial markets operate through learning about different products such as swaps and repos. I have also improved my skills in excel through using it daily whilst producing P&L reports. This is alongside developing my interpersonal and networking skills which is greatly encouraged at MUFG.
Responsibilities
I was given a great amount of responsibility during my internship. This included sending off financial information to stakeholders such as traders as well as market commentary which was sent to the whole department, including the CEO. I was also encouraged to present and ask questions during weekly meetings, giving me more exposure to public speaking.
Support & Guidance
I received a great deal of support during my internship from members of my team such as my line manager. I was able to ask questions freely and was encouraged to find a solution by myself before asking for help. This prompted me to have more independence in my role.
Culture
The culture at MUFG is very pleasant. Due to the flat organisational structure, I was able to speak to a number of people in senior positions. Also, my team were very helpful and easy to get along with.
Your Impressions
I've had a great time during this internship as I feel I have learnt a great deal and met a lot of new interesting people. The responsibilities I was given meant that I was always busy understanding different areas of the bank and never felt bored at my desk.
Yes
I would advise to always ask questions and not worry if something is unknown as you're not expected to know everything. When applying, make sure to research the company and the role whilst having some questions prepared.
