Overview
My role is to learn as much as I can about the bank and my team so I can become more commercially aware about what the team do, how they collaborate with the other desks and what work they get involved in. At 7am and 3pm everyday, I have to send out the earnings sheet to inform all the teams about what companies will be reporting their earnings today and tomorrow. I have to get involved in a trade pitch every week and present it to the rest of the team, 2-3 minute presentation.
Skills
I have developed many skills including my analytical skills, in terms of looking at projects and data in Excel and further analysing it and visualising the data in a manner so that I can present it to the rest of my team. Furthermore, I believe I have improved my confidence in terms of going up to people and asking whether they have time to shadow and learning about more roles within the business and through the stock pitches.
Responsibilities
I have been given a decent amount of responsibility such as sending out daily earnings sheet and make sure that is on time everyday at 7am and 3pm. I also have been given the responsibility of watching some calls and making notes on it and sending out to the rest of the team to consolidate the notes and make sure that they are on point and readable for the rest of the team to digest.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support. Everyone has been very approachable and easy to talk to which has definitely eased the process of talking to new people and has made me feel much less shy. Furthermore, there have been a ton of events for the interns to attend so that if we had nothing to do at the desk, we could at least attend those events and take notes and report back to the team or attend those events for fun and they didn't have to be in your certain sector which I really liked.
Culture
Very approachable and welcoming team. Really happy to work in a team like this and the general atmosphere has always been positive and there is always someone to talk to which is something that I have loved about the team I am currently working in. The atmosphere across the whole company has generally been the same as well which is really good to see.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the internship a lot, very fun and loads to learn. Also, there has been a decent amount of responsibility to take which is good to see as many interns complain that there is not enough work but the team has given me a decent amount of work + shadowing that the team sets me up with and that I have to do myself has been really good and overall been a very enjoyable experience.
Yes
Come with an open mind, don't be shy at all as this is the mistake that I made in my first couple of days and I regret that a lot and wish that I did not do that. I think anyone that applies to Citi will love the culture and the atmosphere and the rest is up to them to take it upon themselves.
