Overview
I would help on backing spreadsheets and commentary for quarterly reports being sent to clients. I was given research tasks on new topics where I would meet with fund managers in the industry to compare new investment vehicles for DB and DC investment teams to look at. I also had a final project and presentation to complete where I worked with senior members of staff on a regular basis.
Skills
I have learnt a huge amount about finance and the pensions industry and the role that Hymans Robertson plays within that. My skills in analysis, communication and learning have been developed significantly during the time of my internship.
Responsibilities
I was given more responsibility than I expected. I felt like I was part of a team on every bit of work and felt heard with everything I said. I was trusted to give my own views and perspectives on work and was given enough independence to learn and develop.
Support & Guidance
I had a people manager and a buddy who were both very helpful. They were both happy to answer any question at any time or help me on a piece of work. I had lots of training and input from different areas of the company and everyone was happy to help me develop and learn throughout my time at Hymans.
Culture
Everyone was so friendly and sociable. I felt I felt I could talk to anyone in the company and have a normal conversation with them. There was so strict hierarchy and I felt like I was really part of the team with every piece of work i was doing.
Your Impressions
It is hard to believe that my Internship is already over, it went so quickly and I really enjoyed myself. I learnt so much and made many friends in the process.
Yes
You should be comfortable applying to and interviewing with Hymans. It was not an intimidating process and everyone wants you to do well.
