Overview
I supported the client teams with the pension schemes they work on, this included creating reports and documents for Trustee meetings and performing various calculations. I also participated in a project to improve training processes.
Skills
I have improved my technical skills in excel, my knowledge of pension industry, my communication and organisational skills, as well becoming comfortable working in a hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
From the 2nd week I was given responsibility on client work, the structure at Hymans means work is always checked and then reviewed by 2 senior members of staff, this structure allows you to get stuck in as a new starter and not be scared of making mistakes.
Support & Guidance
The support is there but you need to figure out a lot by yourself, it's a good learning experience but can be a bit overwhelming
Culture
The company has a laid back, supportive culture. They don't mind how you work as long as the work is done well and will support you to learn and improve from mistakes.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship. I learnt a lot and feel very comfortable joining the industry as a graduate. Hymans have invested a lot of resources into the internship, it's very well planned and has a clear criteria for assessment.
Yes
Be yourself, learn about the industry, show curiosity.
