    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • One week of training followed by rotations on two desks for 4 weeks each. While shadowing most of the day, we were given project work to fill the time when other traders/sales were busy. Additionally, mini-projects to help out specific individuals which helped my understanding and analysis skills and presentation skills.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed, to an enormous extent, my coding ability. Whether that is excel, VBA, python, I have had to become an expert in anything I have been given. In addition, I have had to learn how best to use these tools to deliver insightful insights. Learning how best to present this is also key.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Desk projects will be used by traders and sales but on a trading floor, the scope for responsibly is limited. That said, I found that asking for more work and analysis projects to do, left people more confident in my ability and so I was given more responsibility to deliver actionable insights.
