Overview
Shadowing and networking throughout the trading floor. Working on a desk specific project on each rotation to learn about the teams job- varying from research to building models.
Skills
Personally improved my research and presentation skills. Learnt VBA as a new skill.
Responsibilities
Not on the trading floor as cannot trade whilst unregulated. Some responsibility in developing models independently.
Support & Guidance
Varied across the duration of the internship. Lots of people were very generous with their support and time, others less so. There is a lot to learn and so a steep learning curve.
Culture
There was a nice supportive atmosphere generally amongst the floor. Lots of open discussions involving opinions on macro events.
Your Impressions
As is typical in a workplace, there were highs and lows. In general, the trading floor was an enjoyable place to be as an intern.
Yes
Come with an open mind and willingness to learn a lot. Learn python/VBA if you can. Be resilient.
