Overview
Very desk dependent. On flow desks involves collecting flows seen that day, summarising news articles and working on trade ideas. On other desk, I had more long term projects to do and work on. Just doing tasks to try help out the team where possible as there is only so much an intern can do.
Skills
Improved markets knowledge and product knowledge. Very difficult to get a good understanding unless actually on the desk and speaking to people.
Responsibilities
Yes responsibility over the tasks I was given as some desks can be very busy so you need to make sure you get the work done on time and how they want it .
Support & Guidance
Depends on the desk again. When desk is busy, you need to make sure to ask for guidance and schedule that time in yourself - they won't actively find you.
Culture
Pretty good. People tend to be friendly but busy.
Your Impressions
Enjoyed my time although at times it was challenging. Great opportunity to learn things and understand how to process news/headlines.
Yes
Asking lots of questions about what people do - people are willing to help out and answer.
