Overview
I was placed in sustainable investment research so I was constructing company reports and presenting back to the team. I also constructed company reports on inclusion for sustainability portfolios.
Skills
I have developed skills in presenting and analysis. Additionally, I have improved on confidence in my work and responding well to being challenged. We completed a group project for which we had to speak to individuals around the company. This aided me with teamwork skills and communication skills. I also developed networking skills from speaking to people in different teams.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given responsibility to deliver my work by deadlines. My prior chemistry knowledge meant I became a go-to point for others for chemistry related inquiries and even attended a meeting with a company's executive team to give industry-specific input.
Support & Guidance
During the induction period, we were briefed on how to make the most out of our internship. This was very in-depth and helped a lot in terms of reaching out to people and taking responsibility for our development. Although I had a change of managers during my internship, I felt very supported by my team and was able to ask questions on anything I was unsure about. At the start of each new project, my manager ran me though the framework and gave me tips on how to complete the work to a good standard.
Culture
The company as a whole is extremely friendly and easy to reach out to. Everyone was happy to speak with me and answer any questions. The atmosphere as a whole is very supportive and this creates a place where people can be relaxed and genuinely enjoy their work.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed this internship due to the value-add of my work and my genuine interest in the area. I felt well supported through the whole process and would recommend this to students looking to get an experience of asset management.
Yes
Prepare well for the video interview and assessment centre by researching the company. It is important to be yourself during both of these processes and don't be afraid to be unique!
