Overview
On a day-to-day basis it was quite varied work so there was always the internship project to work on throughout the 8 weeks and then present in the final week, and alongside this we were allocated technical work and client work, which was quite random. We were given various tasks such as Transfer Values, HTV work etc, which was all new but as long as we asked questions, and there was someone to explain and support me, it was doable. You are able to sort of manage your time as long as you keep to deadlines.
Skills
Definitely, everything I learnt was all new. There was a lot of excel work and using Hymans software such as Exodus and NAV+ which at first seems intimidating but once you get going, it becomes quite familiar. I also developed my networking skills as I met others from different business areas and worked with interns from different offices for the charity challenge.
Responsibilities
Yes in terms of controlling my time as I had to ensure I managed my time well and took on tasks if I had free time and let others know if it was too much. We were also given responsibility also in terms of coming up with fundraiser ideas.
Support & Guidance
A lot of guidance and support was given during tasks and I was comfortable to ask for help if I needed it otherwise too.
Culture
Very nice, friendly atmosphere. It is quite relaxed and motivating as long as you do your tasks and keep to deadlines.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. It was so fascinating diving into the actuarial world and actually getting relevant experience and doing the calculations myself. It made me realise how this job is quite suited to my nature and something I wish to progress in. I found the Hymans atmosphere to be very kind and pleasant, and promote a good work-life balance. Having a flexible schedule and hybrid working means I am excited to work here.
