Overview
My role was working as part of the Go To Market Commercial branch of British Gas, working on individual, and collaborative projects such as content creation, statistical analysis and competitor analysis. This role included visiting different offices (Primarily Windsor), working with a close knit team on various projects. It includes meetings, and personal projects along with extra-curricular activities such as a charity challenge with other summer interns.
Skills
I have developed interpersonal skills, and how to communicating and networking effectively. I have also learnt technical skills such as video content creation, and statistical analysis. I have further developed organizational skills, and the importance of effective time management
Responsibilities
I was given a good amount of responsibility in my role. This included being responsible for my own individual projects and effectively managing work across a collaborative capacity. The work I completed would have real world application and thus the responsibility to perform the tasks well were impressed.
Support & Guidance
I received a massive amount of support and guidance in role. I was given a stream (marketing) support team, a personal manager to report to (who was incredibly supportive), and an intern wide support network. There was also a wider sentiment of support across the whole business with many other colleagues giving time to help, guide and support us through the intern journey.
Culture
The general culture and atmosphere at the company was very positive. Everyone was incredibly friendly and supportive, being more than happy to give up time to assist the interns. The culture was very friendly, and incredibly hard working.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time at Centrica. It was an amazing experience, learning and developing both technical and soft skills. The culture of the company was great, with a massive amount of support from the whole business. The intern program was exceptionally well run with a great sense of comradery between all the interns. It was great for technical experience, learning more about the industry and role I was in.
Yes
Be open to everything. It's easy to be nervous, particularly in the first few weeks, but the culture is incredibly positive and supportive. There are loads of opportunities available, and great extra learning courses. But be prepared to work hard, and be taken to lots of different offices.
