    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was placed within the eCommerce division of British Gas Services and Solutions, working on the website to help customers discover our products. This involved communicating to and bringing different teams to test and implement changes on the site, from conception to delivery, involving copywriters, compliance, designers and developers.

  • Yes. Within my role, I was able to expand on my digital capabilities and learn all about the end to end process of web development and eCommerce in a large business.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, for the projects I worked on under my manager, I was given a lot of room and autonomy to conduct these independently, with exactly as much support as I needed.

  • A lot. There are Graduates who support us as streams, a 1-1 graduate buddy for each intern, the Emerging Talent team, and our managers.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Mostly brilliant. There's a lot of passion in the business for Centrica's green mission and people I have met are generally lovely.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed this. I feel very accomplished from my role with everything I learned, as I was placed in an area I knew nothing about and was able to develop useful knowledge and skills in eCommerce. The people are what made this as the other interns are brilliant.

  • Be open minded to the industry. Be proactive in making the most of it, as people are willing to help or chat if you have areas of interest or want to build connections. Be prepared to travel.
