Overview
I was working to deliver updates for the solar and battery app. Day to day this involved working on projects such as customer research and competitor analyses, having team calls to meet with developers and designers and discuss the progress of app features, and writing up tickets to reflect discussions.
Skills
I have developed hard skills such as being able to use Jira and understanding how to develop effective PowerPoint decks. I have also developed a lot of soft skills including how to present, communicate, and lead. I have also come away with a far better understanding of the energy industry, of marketing, and of how a big corporate business like Centrica functions.
Responsibilities
I was given a significant amount of responsibility as my team often used my competitor analysis, and my knowledge of this to make decisions - I was really given a say, it felt as though colleagues valued my opinion. Furthermore, I was trusted to meet with designers by myself, answer their questions, and make decisions about how the app should look.
Support & Guidance
I received an incredible amount of support during my internship - right from the beginning during the recruitment process and assessment centre, everyone was so friendly and constantly offering opportunities to reach out and seek guidance. Furthermore, during the internship itself, we had a system of buddies, grad leaders, and talent managers who were all incredible.
Culture
The company culture was amazing - very inclusive and supportive, with everyone you meet always offering to help and support you. I don't feel this is in anyway performative, I think all the employees genuinely love the company and are just lovely and friendly people. They all live and breathe the Centrica values and want to make the world a better place.
Your Impressions
I loved my time here - it was more than I expected it to be. I met some incredible people, learned a huge amount, and was given far more responsibility than I imagined. I was really immersed into the Centrica community and came away with a far better understanding of, and a real passion for, the energy industry and the work that Centrica are doing.
