The Role
I have really enjoyed my time at IBM. I have not only developed my skills but have extended my network hugely and built some great relationships. I'm extremely glad I opted to take a placement.
I felt valued by my team as they would always offer recognition for a good piece of work as well as giving me constructive feedback to develop against.
My management team gave me great support and really encouraged me to stretch myself.
I feel I had the right workload. I obviously had very busy periods but that was expected. If ever I felt I had too little work I always asked and there was usually something I could get involved with.
I was given real responsibility throughout my placement at IBM and was trusted with data of high integrity. This gave me more motivation as I felt I was doing a worthwhile job and actively contributing to the team.
I have developed soft skills a well as skills relating to finance directly and knowledge of the industry. All of the skills I have learned and developed will benefit me in my final year at university and beyond. I feel I would not have developed so many skills if I wasn't in a company that offered so much support.
The Company
The atmosphere was very friendly and everyone made it very clear they were there to help. IBM has a great 'people orientated' culture.
The placement scheme is very well organised as there was a specific scheme in place to help and support the students.
I felt IBM invested a lot of time and money into the development of their placement students. I feel I had a lot of opportunities available to me.

There is potential to get onto a Graduate scheme at IBM however not in the role I wanted as these roles have been off-shored. I will still take the opportunity to apply back as it would be a great opportunity.
The Culture
One huge advantage of working for a large company is the scale of the placement scheme. Within my location there was roughly 80 students so the social side of things was great and I built some really strong relationships. Also within my department we tried to organise quarterly socials which were great fun.
The costs were pretty average compared to other places I had been.
Working in Portsmouth was good. The nightlife is lively because there is a university and because it is a relatively big city.
There were a lot of local sports teams and events.
