Finance Summer Intern Review

I would begin the day liaising with my line manager of the agenda for today. I would then start personal work, whatever it may entail, such as working on my timesheeting project or helping my team towards month end. I would then have some calls/meetings to sit in on, and I would then send a couple emails to spread my network.

I have learnt multiple new processes and systems such as Professional excel, Power BI, Power Query, JD Edwards, Microsoft Forms, Power Automate. This alongside developing my business communications, as well as my commercial awareness has helped me improve my overall professional development. Moreover, I have improved my resilience, time management and proactiveness in the workplace

Yes I was given quite a lot of responsibility within my role. I had free reign on all my projects, and was given time by my manager to try and understand things for myself prior to asking for help which helped me understand processes to a higher proficiency.

I was given a lot of support and guidance from all those within my team, as well as those within the emerging talent team. I had catch up calls with my line manager every day, as well as once a week with my buddy. Moreover, other people within my team were more than willing to offer their support at any step of the way.

I believe that the company culture was inclusive and nurturing for early career development. The ethos of no question is a stupid question really helped make everyone feel like they could make as many mistakes as possible to get to their goals which in turn increased confidence, especially within myself.

I really enjoyed my internship. I believe that I learnt a lot both professionally and personally, things that I will be able to take with me as my career goes forward, hopefully on the Centrica grad scheme. It was a great insight into the energy workplace as well.

I think that it is worth taking time with the internship process. Developing your background knowledge prior to applying ensures you are in the best position possible to succeed in getting the internship. Moreover, as you star, make sure to make the most out of every opportunity presented to you, and try and reach out to as many people as possible, internally and externally to your team.
