Overview
Worked in recruitment marketing team by helping them to update early careers job boards. Provided suggestions on a few projects and worked as a team with other interns. Daily tasks included sending emails, shadowing my manager on meetings, leading meetings myself, working with others on projects.
Skills
I have developed my time management and communication skills. I have learnt presenting skills as I had never done any presenting before at university. I feel much more confident with presenting now and also I had to present to some senior leaders so I learnt how to adapt my communication to speak to higher level colleagues.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given lots of responsibility as my main project of updating job boards websites was a project I really owned. I could easily get support when I had questions but overall it was down to me and I also had meetings with external stakeholders. A big project was also left with me and a couple of other interns to work together.
Support & Guidance
I had so much support form my line manager and the general emerging talent team. The other interns were also great for support and we all bonded really well. I had Intern Talent Managers too and they were amazing to go to for general questions as they are on the graduate scheme so are close to us in age and have been there for a year or two. Every colleague I met was so friendly and helpful.
Culture
The culture at Centrica is why everyone wants to work there! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and you can tell that they are very passionate about their work. They enjoy what they do and want to pass their knowledge on. Diversity and inclusion is also very important to them and there are lots of colleague networks to join. Volunteering is also important to them as each colleague has two days they can take for volunteering in a year.
Your Impressions
I loved my internship and am so grateful for the experience. I really liked the emerging talent team that recruited us as they are all so supportive and helpful. The people are what made it so great for me and I also really liked the work I was doing. I had a lot of fun and am sad to be leaving!
Yes
I would say the main thing is to always say yes to opportunities and believe in yourself! You will learn so much about yourself and get to see what it's like to be in a corporate working environment. Be open to all ideas and don't be afraid to give your own.
