Overview
Working on either gross margin or opex, comparing forecasted revenue and costs to actual data. Making this data more presentable using both Microsoft Excel & Power BI. Examples of gross margin work include updating the COPA model, and working on an Exhibit B2C file, examples of opex work includes a 2nd party contractors piece and an ongoing change and run piece.
Skills
Enhanced my technical skills in Excel and Power BI, as well as improving my quantitative analysis ability using these software packages. Also developed my presenting skills in my final presentation and the Charity Challenge presentation. Further developed my collaboration and communication skills by working in a team within a corporate professional environment.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was instantly working on projects that would help contribute to the FP&A team's analysis and be used during the month end summaries. Also was given the responsibility to organise and coordinate the team's summer social event.
Support & Guidance
There were a lot of different places and people to reach out to such as my buddy, my line manger and my intern talent manager. Could also reach out to other people in my team as well as the Emerging Talent team.
Culture
It was collaborative and inclusive, however far too much focus on the Centrica values and making everything we do relate to them.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed aspects of the internship such as collaborative projects with other interns and within my own team. Did not enjoy some of the talks as much as they often felt like we were simply just being talked at.
Yes
That you are thrown into your work straight away and there are a lot of different business units. However, for the internship you do not have a choice where you are assigned, but the majority of people really enjoyed their role.
