    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was placed as a Data Analyst in the Serve team in Hive. I worked remotely so attended meetings through MS Teams. I was set tasks by my manager including writing reports, writing Serve tickets, stake holder management and project planning. I had a lot of freedom to tailor my day as I wished. Some days I had lots of meetings others I could focus on independent work.

    Skills

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes a lot! I was given the responsibility to research and produce a Winter Ready web page which I worked on along with a Grad. I was also tasked to track down a AWS S3 Bucket with data on costumers and asked to collate this into a usable format. Also writing tickets for developers. These tasks took a lot of initiative and not much hand holding.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My manager was incredible! I could always ask him for clarification on tasks and he was very motivated to help me with my development plan. I had two 121s a week. We also had access to learning and development tools including LinkedIn Learning. I felt very welcome during my induction week with emerging talent and they ensured our role was fulfilling enough. In places the communication was lacking around weeks in the Windsor Office. I was also provided accommodation in Royal Holloway Halls when we were expected in the Windsor Office and hotels in Leeds when I visited the Leeds office. I was also guided by grads and colleagues who had been through the summer placement previously and weekly catch ups with talent managers.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 5/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture on career development and feedback is incredible. We were encouraged to set a development plan and this was updated in our final week. Our talent managers set up intro sessions to Power BI and API requests as well as intros to other areas of the business which were the most insightful There are so many Networks to join, due to my short time in role I didn't get involved as much as I would have liked. Also working remotely I lacked that experience other interns gained in Windsor. I appreciated the one team day in Leeds where I met my team in person

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed it and would love to come back on the grad scheme to explore different areas of Commercial Analysis and the business units on Centrica. The only parts I didn't enjoy where to do with working remotely.

  • 7. Would you recommend Centrica to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Centrica
  • If they continue to offer accommodation, consider if you would prefer to be close to Windsor/ your team for the majority of the time and ask to stay in Windsor the whole time. I feel I missed the experience of getting closer with my team and other Interns because we were not in person and commuting would have been too exhausting
