Overview
Visiting and liaising with clients. spend a lot of time examining financial records, carefully reviewing a company's financial statements, receipts, and other relevant documents. It's my job to make sure everything is accurate and complies with accounting standards. A key part of my role is testing internal controls. This involves assessing how effective a company's procedures are in preventing errors and fraud. I work closely with senior team members to understand these controls and document our findings. I record all audit procedures and findings, ensuring a clear audit trail for everyone involved. Time preparing work papers. This involves compiling and organizing all the supporting documentation that will be included in the final audit report.
Skills
I have learnt a lot about accounting standards and specific practises, this was aided by the 2 ACA exams I completed during my time. I have developed my communication skills as a key part of the job is discussing balances with both senior members of the clients team as well as your team. I had a lot of exposure to new ways of working.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility for example setting up meetings with senior members of the clients team as well as being in charge of certain areas during the course of the audit. I was given opportunities to coach newer members of the firm in areas I have previously completed.
Support & Guidance
Teams were generally happy to help and explain things thoroughly until you understand. It is essential to ask lots of questions people are very happy to assist.
Culture
The office was lively and we had a lot of socials to boost team morale. I have enjoyed meeting the team and people across the departments.
Your Impressions
I believe the placement allowed me to be involved in meaningful work that different from engagement to engagement. I fitted in well with the team and really enjoyed working for Deloitte. The work was equally challenging and rewarding.
