    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Whilst working for Savills I was mainly in the planning department, however some days I had the opportunity to go on site with the surveyors. Day to day has varied each day for me. Some days I will be out of the office on site meeting with clients, while other days I will be mainly at the office.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have gained a great deal of knowledge during my time here, particularly through conducting numerous planning appraisals. I now feel very confident in identifying the right websites for research. Additionally, I understand the entire process of getting a planning application through to completion, from contacting Savills to working with the client until the application is finalized.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given considerable responsibility during my placement. I conducted numerous planning appraisals, managed the research process by identifying the appropriate resources, and was actively involved in coordinating with consultants like Savills. I also played a key role in guiding planning applications from initial contact through to completion, working closely with clients to ensure successful outcomes.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • During my placement, I received a balanced amount of support and guidance. While I was given the autonomy to handle tasks independently, including conducting planning appraisals and managing the application process, there was always guidance available when needed. My mentors and colleagues were approachable and provided valuable insights, especially when I encountered more complex challenges. This combination of independence and support allowed me to grow confidently in my role while still having the resources to succeed.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and general atmosphere were very positive and supportive. There was a strong sense of collaboration within the team, where everyone was encouraged to share ideas and contribute to projects. The environment was both professional and friendly, making it easy to ask questions and learn from others. The team fostered a culture of continuous learning and development, which made it an enjoyable and motivating place to work. Overall, the atmosphere was dynamic, inclusive, and focused on achieving shared goals.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. The hands-on experience, combined with the supportive team and positive company culture, made it a rewarding experience. I found the work to be both challenging and fulfilling, especially as I gained more confidence in conducting planning appraisals and managing the application process. The opportunities for learning and professional growth were substantial, and I appreciated the balance of independence and guidance. Overall, the placement was an enjoyable and valuable step in my career development.

  • Research the company before hand to get a real idea of what the company is like as a whole. Be ready to discuss your past experiences in detail, particularly how you handled challenges or complex tasks. Also, be prepared to explain why you’re interested in the property sector and what specifically attracts you to Savills. Demonstrate your willingness to learn and adapt. Savills offers a lot of opportunities for growth, so showing that you’re committed to continuous development will make you stand out.
