Overview
I was involved with helping each team with reports, site visits and any general due diligence that needed to be done. In each team I was shadowing multiple professionals whilst also learning and developing my knowledge about the industry at the same time. I used databases such as Costar, Athena and Savills maps/google maps, to compare properties and analyze the surrounding areas nearby.
Skills
I've developed my skills in using data bases such as Costar and Savills Maps, as well as expanding my skill-set with Excel and Word. I have developed better communication skills through phone calls with agents, speaking with tenants and liaising meetings with other professionals within the office. Additionally I have developed my skills in teamwork, problem solving, time management and creativity whilst working at Savills.
Responsibilities
I was given ample responsibility whilst working here, and each department made sure I wasn't given anything I could not handle or understand, without explaining it to me and making sure I understood the task at hand.
Support & Guidance
A lot of support, from workers within the office, to the summer scheme organizers in London etc.
Culture
The company culture was extremely professional, with all workers setting a proficient standard in competence and thoroughness etc. I found Savills to be very diverse and inclusive, which really helped me settle into the company quicker.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed this internship very much, I have developed new skills and gained new knowledge which has enabled me to understand more about the property industry and how each department interconnects with others. I will definitely be applying for the Birmingham graduate scheme next year!
Yes
Be confident! the people you're working under and professionals you work with all know you probably don't know much about property, so it's the little things like coming in on time, being sociable with others and being eager to work which is what makes you stand out from the others. It's a sociable career, so you need to make sure you gel well with others, as its a small world in property and everyone knows everyone.
